22 Day Push-up Challenge

Day 5! Let’s keep it going!! Awesome!!!

love that you’re doing videos of this @paul! lol.

Paul, Your Day 5 music got me Shaolin Monk motivated!! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I think it’s amazing that you are doing this to raise awareness on this issue. I hold fundraisers and do what I can do raise awareness on suicide prevention and mental health issues for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) over the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (NSPL) because AFSP depends on private contributions and receive no funding from the gov’t unlike NSPL. AFSP is also one of the top rated charity organizations on charitynavigator, so the money thats donated goes to where it should be. Both are incredibly valuable organizations though. I’ll be joining you starting today do the 22 push up challenge for the next 22 days (although no video) in support of your cause.

On a longer note:

A lot of times, mental health is looked at as weakness. It may come from birth and/or from the environment that you were raised in. It may even come from being discriminated or oppressed.

We tell ourselves, “im not crazy. i dont need medications. i dont need a psychiatrist or a doctor.” But, in reality, everybody is medicating and self-medicating to some degree. People drink, smoke, do various drugs, overeat, etc to cope with shit going on in their lives.

Mental health/Suicide is so stigmatized in our society because we dont want to be labeled as unstable or crazy that we just try to medicate/self-medicate to patch these wounds up without understanding the underlying issues, so theres never any real dialogue about it.

I have had few friends attempt to commit suicide multiple times, and I know some that have passed on. I dont often share this publically, but personally, there has been a point in my life in the past where I really didn’t want to live anymore. I legitimately wanted to give up on life. I felt trapped. I felt like I had no purpose. I felt alone. I didn’t want to be awake anymore.

My point is that what everyone wants in the end is to be truly happy. I admit there are times I still struggle, but I’m definitely in a much better place than I was. Over 40,000 people commit suicide a year in the US alone. On average, 121 people commit suicide a day.

Often times, many people who suffer from mental health issues or are contemplating suicide, they isolate themselves. They don’t want to burden you with their issues. I know I did that. But I insist, if you need help, please please please go reach out and talk to somebody. I know that often times, when you do reach out to friends or family, they dont really understand. It’s hard for anybody to truly understand what youre going through, but please reach out to anybody if you need help whether its friends, family, a specialist. The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline hotline number is: 1-800-273-8255. Get help.

You are not alone.

Whatever we can do to move the needle! 1% a day! You’re doing awesome and keeping me encouraged! We’ll get there soon enough! ^^

Outstanding message, thank you for sharing and joining the challenge!Everydays a new day, new you, new thoughts, the past is gone - let’s walk in the shoes we were meant to walk in, smile and find inner peace in uplifting others!

This was powerful @naxypoo . I really appreciate you taking the time to share this.

thanks, i think being able to be open about it and share personal experiences or thoughts on the matter helps create a space for other people to feel comfortable about opening up. no one should feel ashamed to admit what they are going through or have gone through. that’s what stops them from getting the proper help that they need.

Love it Dustin! Day 9!!
