Local betting shops basicaly dead in your area? walked into mine and nearly cried

honestly the shops shutting probably saved me money lol. when you have to physically walk somewhere and hand over cash theres FRICTION. you lose, you go home, day done. online i can lose my whole weeks wage at 3am in my pants without standing up. did it last tuesday actually. the shop made me WORK to ruin myself, the app just hands me the rope. so yeah RIP the bookies i guess but my bank account doesn't miss it

gonna be honest i've literally never been inside a betting shop in my life lol. im 24. wouldn;t even know what to do, do you just walk up and talk to someone?? put my first ever bets on stake last week (the £50 crypto thing some of you helped me with). cant imagine doing it any other way tbh

do you just walk up and talk to someone?
And theres the whole problem in one sentence lol. No offence son. You write your selection on a slip, hand it over with your cash, get a paper receipt. Takes 30 seconds and no app has your bank details or knows your inside leg measurement.

Crypto casino at 24 with no idea how a bookies works. We're cooked.

do the shops even take card now? i haven't carried cash in like 3 years.that might be half the problem honestly, everything else went cashles and they were still all about the notes

theres another reason nobody mentioned. the online books BAN you the second you start winning. limit your stakes to pennies, close your account, whatever. a shop cant do that as easily, you walk in with cash you get your bet on. thats literally why the sharp money is moving to exchanges and prediction markets where they cant just kick you for being good. betfair, kalshi, polymarket etc

This is the actual future imo. Kalshi and Polymarket are the hottest thing in US gambling right now and theyre not even legally "gambling" - they argue they're federally regulated event contracts, financial products. A federal appeals court already sided with that framing in part. So states screaming "that's illegal sports betting!" are getting overruled.
So you have this mad situation where the state bans your sweepstakes casino but cant touch the prediction market because its dressed up as Wall Street. Same bet, different lawyer.

@chapmanwins out here gatekeeping what counts as a bet 😂 by your logic if it doesn't smell of biro its not real money
the prediction market stuff is actually huge though.@ VPNmaster right, the books limiting winners is the dirty secret nobody outside the game knows. you win consistent, you're gone. shop never did that t you

exactly and thats why i only do betfair exchange. clear 5 figures most months, no bookie can limit me there. shops are for people who like losing slowly in company lol
sure you do mate. post the statements then. funny how the lads making 60k a year off betting are always on a forum telling strangers about it

on the actual topic - i lost £200 on stake in like 30 minutes last month. in a shop that would've taken me half a day and several bad decisions in a row. there is genuinely something to the friction thing @GambleDegen said. i think such speed is the danger

i think such speed is the danger
this is the bit the "convenience" crowd never want to admit. yeah its convenient. so is a cliff edge if you're in a hurry. the shop being a pain in the arse to get to was a feature not a bug for a lot of people

anyone elses local actually still alive or is it just mine going under?
Yes this is the thing that is happening in many place not only your area because the technology is now everywhere and the people they have the smartphone.so they can do the betting inside the house but also some people still going if they have the habit from before but the new generation no because why they will go when is already in the phone and also the bonus is there and the pyament is fast
but in the shop is not like that so the owner he is losing the customer slowly slowly and is the same like the other business not only the betting also the shopping everything is going this way so we cannot do nothing it is just how is the life now

Worth flagging one thing for the younger members reading this and getting excited about online.
The "no account, no ID" freedom you get online is temporary. You play anonymously, you win small, all fine. The day you win something serious they suddenly need your passport, proof of address, source of funds - and they can sit on your withdrawal until you provide it. A shop paid you in cash on the spot, no questions. People romanticise online privacy but it has a hard limit and it always shows up exactly when you want your money.

it always shows up exactly when you want your money
100%. seen so many "they wont pay me out" posts and its always the same, fine til they won, then suddenly 6 forms of ID and a 4 week "review". at least with the shop the worst that happened was the bloke miscounted your tenners

or.. you use a no KYC casino and that never happens. they exist. you just have to pick the right ones. but sure keep scaring the new guys harry 🙄

"no KYC" lasts right up until they decide they don't want to pay you. then watch how fast the KYC appears. there's a whole separate horror show about that, not getting into it here. point stands

id say both of you half right. whether you get KYCd on a withdrawal has more to do with the casinos bankroll and how big your win is than the "no KYC" label. small wins on a well funded site, instant, nobody cares. big win anywhere, expect questions eventually. the label is marketing more than a guarantee
